THE ADVOCATES:

The Role of the Advocates:
The role of the advocates is to disseminate valuable information regarding breast cancer awareness and prevention to their constituency. By communicating these data to the membership and, in turn, giving information back to the project, we hope to better educate the population of women and girls regarding breast cancer.

The Advocates:

Paulette Valliere:

Vicki Rakowski:

  • Executive Vice President for Medical Activities of the Great Lakes Division of the American Cancer Society

Because of the demands for critical funding for many issues, our lawmakers and other public officials are no longer satisfied with receiving volumes of scientific studies and visits from special interest lobbyists. They need more. Lawmakers need to see and hear from the people who truly care—namely you.
That's what the Cancer Control Advocacy Team is all about. CCAT, part of the ACS Action Network, is the Great Lakes Division American Cancer Society's volunteer corps committed to preventing cancer and making it a priority for Indiana.

Christine Pearson:

  • President of the Greater Lansing Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36.

Education is a key component of our mission. The Greater Lansing Affiliate provides education on Breast Health for Women, Breast Abnormalities, and Breast Education for Children.

Latecia Matthews:

  • Project Specialist for Faith Access to Community Economic Development
F.A.C.E.D., or Faith Access to Community Economic Development, is a non-profit corporation established to provide services to meet the comprehensive health needs- physical, mental, and spiritual- of low income residents of Flint and Genesee County.

Lana Pollack:

  • President of the Michigan Environmental Council
The Michigan Environmental Council (MEC) provides a collective voice for the environment at the local, state and federal levels. Working with our member groups and their collective membership of nearly 200,000 residents, MEC is addressing the primary assaults on Michigan’s environment; promoting alternatives to urban blight and suburban sprawl; advocating for a sustainable environment and economy; protecting Michigan’s water legacy; promoting cleaner energy; and working to diminish environmental impacts on children’s health.
